Chemical Peel Treatments

Have you ever thought about Botox, Restylane or any type face lift or augmentation? Do you use these products or have had a lift? Adamantly against any of these treatments? Do you want to restore a more youthful appearance to you skin? Do you suffer from chronic acne?

If so to any of these questions, you are likely a great candidate for a chemical peelpeel treatment. Not all chemical peel brands, products and ingredients are created equal, so we have selected industry premier PCA SKIN brand Chemical Peels; the brand most revered by dermatologists and other skincare professionals worldwide. Aligned with our personal philosophy we too believe that healthy skin is beautiful skin, and to achieve this we offer the most comprehensive approach in the professional peel treatment industry to correcting your skin's specific issues and conditions. Because we believe so much in the effectiveness of these treatments and the importance of following a Chemical Peel Treatment Schedule it is our mission to make them more readily available you. This is why we offer them at a competitive cost to what most other places offer general cleansing facial services, and also why we offer your 6th chemical peel treatment free (when scheduled within the recommended timeframe).

Although you will see and feel results from one chemical peel treatment, we would like for you to understand the compounding benefits of regularly scheduled treatments. Healthy young skin is renewed by cell turnover and regeneration every 21-28 days. Over time, primarily depending upon your age, genetics, and the way you care for your skin, cell turnover rate and regeneration can decrease significantly resulting in a duller skin tone and complexion from hyperpigmentation (discoloration and uneven darkening of the skin as a result of sun damage, inflammation from acne or other scarring, and hormonal changes), increased fine lines and wrinkles, and skin lacking the youthful elastic appearance built from a healthy collagen & elastin structure within the dermis. Just one chemical peel treatment can kickstart your skin's turnover rate, but a series of these treatments will change your skin from within encouraging it to regenerate on a more frequent basis, and encourage the production of collagen. This is also why chemical peels are also ideal for people suffering from chronic acne blemishes and breakouts. The results from frequent chemical peel treatments can be a dramatic; especially when used in conjunction with a proper at-home skincare regime.

To best address your skin's specific needs we offer a variety of chemical peel options which fall into 5 different categories. During your consultation your skin will be analyzed and evaluated in order to select the best chemical peel treatment protocol for you.

Peel FAQ

Open AllClose All

Will a chemical peel make my skin peel, and if so how badly?
Although your skin may peel depending upon the chemical peel selected for your treatment protocol, we would like to dispel the myth that your skin has to peel in order to benefit from a chemical peel treatment. If you skin does peel you can expect it to last 2-3 days. It should begin on day 3 post treatment and continue until about day 5. We basically say "Peel on 3, by 5 home free." Because of this we can help you schedule your appointment so your skin is looking it's absolute best for any events you have planned.
How much discomfort should be expected when having a peel?
The level of discomfort experienced depends on the treatment. Most PCA Professional™ chemical peels are gentle and create little or no burning or stinging sensation in the skin. Dramatic wrinkling, sun damage or acne scars may require a deeper peel, which may cause moderate stinging for a few minutes. More dramatic results can be expected from a deeper peel, however deep peels are not necessary for most skin types and conditions. PCA's philosophy of taking a low-dose approach means our superficial chemical peels create minimal discomfort and produce beautiful and immediate results for most patients.
How do I know which chemical peel treatment is right for me?
Your skin care professional will be trained on each of the PCA Professional™ Products. This training will allow them to not only choose a treatment designed for your skin type, but customize a treatment, addressing your personal skin care needs.
How important is it that I follow a Chemical Peel Treatment Schedule?
Chemical peel results can be quite dramatic if a schedule is followed, and if appropriate home care is used on your skin before and after your peel. By not receiving your peels at the recommended scheduled time you will begin to lose the benefits from your previous peels.
How frequently can I receive a Chemical Peel?
We will determine your individualized chemical peel schedule based upon your skin type and conditions. The following is a guideline for scheduling treatment of specific skin conditions:

  • For Aging Skin: Every 3 weeks for 3-4 treatments.
    • Maintenance: Every 4-6 weeks.
  • For Acne: Every 2 weeks for 4 treatments.
    • Maintenance: Every 4 weeks (then up to 6 as condition improves)
  • For Hyperpigmentation: Every 3 weeks for 3-4 treatments.
    • Maintenance: Every 4-6 weeks.

When will I see results from my chemical peel, and what can I expect?
You will see and feel positive results from your chemical peel immediately. Upon leaving the office your skin will look healthy and glowing, and it will feel tighter and firmer. Between days 3-5 post-peel you may experience shedding, or "peeling," of the outermost layers of skin. However, depending upon the type of chemical peel you receive you may not necessarily experience this shedding process. This is absolutely not an indication of whether your chemical peel was successful. Many of our peels simply work deeper within the epidermis stimulating collagen and elastin resulting in a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. Other peels work to shed the skin's top layer in order to reveal healthier newer skin cells underneath. After 5 days your skin will look more youthful, luminous and revitalized. When following a chemical peel treatment schedule you will begin to see dramatic changes in your skin's overall appearance, texture, and feel.
Why do I have patchy darkened or discolored areas on my face, and can this be fixed?
This is generally characterized as Hyperpigmentation. An example of hyperpigmentation is melasma (also known as chloasma). This condition is characterized by tan or brown patches, most commonly on the face. Melasma can occur in women experiencing hormonal changes, pregnant women (often will eventually fade post-pregnancy), and even men can develop this condition. We recommend it be treated through a regular series of chemical peels.
Should people who are frequently in the sun receive peels?
Yes, but only if they are compliant with using sunscreen protection every day. Sunbathing should be avoided directly following a treatment and while the skin is peeling. If you are getting peels to lighten the skin it is imperative to avoid unnecessary sun exposure to reduce any chance of further hyperpigmentation.
Can I get a chemical peel even if I exercises frequently?
Someone who is active may have any peel, but all peel patients must wait 48 hours after a treatment to exercise to the level of perspiring. If this is not an option, we recommend our Ultra Peel® II Exfoliating Treatment which is an acid- free retinol cream. Its delayed flaking action will not cause irritation or downtime, and leaves the skin glowing and hydrated.
Will a chemical peel make thin skin even thinner?
Dry skin is partially the result of dead cell buildup, which actually hinders natural exfoliation as well as the absorption and penetration of vitamins and nutrients. Having a PCA Professional™ chemical peel will remove surface buildup, hydrate the skin and give it a plumper, "thicker" appearance. The use of topical vitamin C and peptide products in a treatment, as well as in your daily care regimen will help build collagen in the skin, thus making it stronger and more durable.
What is Hyperpigmentation, and what causes it?
Pigmentation is the coloring of a person's skin. When a person is healthy, his or her skin will appear normal in color. In the case of illness or injury, the person's skin may change color, becoming darker (hyperpigmentation) or lighter (hypopigmentation). Hyperpigmentation in skin is caused by an increase in melanin, the substance in the body that is responsible for color (pigment). Certain conditions, such as pregnancy, or Addison's disease (decreased function of the adrenal gland), may cause a greater production of melanin resulting in hyperpigmentation. Exposure to sunlight is also a major cause of hyperpigmentaion, and will darken already hyperpigmented areas. Hyperpigmentation can also be caused by various medications including some antibiotics, antiarrhythmics, and antimalaria drugs.
What does Keratolytic mean?
Keratolytic action refers to the softening and separation of the skin's topmost layer. By loosening and removing dead skin cells the newer healthier skin cells underneath can come to the surface. The result is healthier, more radiant younger-looking skin.

Post Care: Chemical Peel Treatment

For 2 Days Post-Treatment:

  • Stay cool! Heating internally can cause hyperpigmentation.
  • Do not put the treated area directly into a hot shower spray.
  • Do not use hot tubs, steam rooms or saunas.
  • Do not excessively submerge treated area in water (ex: avoid swimming).
  • Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration.
  • Do not use loofas, scrubs or other means of exfoliation.
  • Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated area.

Other General Guidelines

  • After receiving a PCA SKIN professional treatment, you should not necessarily expect to 'peel'. However, light flaking in a few localized areas for several days is typical. Most patients who undergo these treatments have residual redness for approximately one to twelve hours post- treatment.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. Use a sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30.
  • As with all peels and treatments, it is recommended that makeup not be applied the day of treatment, as it is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight; however, makeup may be applied 15 minutes after the treatment if desired.
  • To minimize side effects and maximize results we recommend you use ReThink Clean to keep your skin hydrated, moisturized and balanced as your home care plan. This should be used at least twice a day but can be applied more frequently for hydration and to decrease the appearance of flaking.
  • If the skin feels tight, apply ReThink Clean to moisturize as needed.
  • It is recommended that other topical, over-the-counter medications or alpha hydroxy acid products not be applied to the skin for seven days post procedure, as they may cause irritation.
  • It is recommended to delay use of trentinoin, Retin-A, Differin, Renova, Tazorac, Avage EpiDuo or Ziana five days post-treatment. Consult your physician before temporarily discontinuing use of any prescription medications.
  • Do not go to a tanning bed for at least two weeks post treatment. This practice should be discontinued due to the increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging.
  • Do not pick or pull on any loosening or peeling skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.
  • Do not have electrolysis, facial waxing and/or use depilatories (hair-removing products such as Nair) on treated area for approximately five days.
  • Do not have another treatment until your skincare specialist advises you to do so.
  • Use a broad spectrum UV protection with a minimum of SPF 30.
